YUGEN: Collaboration with Martha Fiennes and Salma Hayek
This bespoke painted gown was made in collaboration with Martha Fiennes and Salma Hayek, for the role of the Red Empress in Yugen, as played by Hayek. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival 2018 and later featured at the Serpentine, London and LACMA, Los Angeles.
Directed by Martha Fiennes, Yugen embodies both the status of a living painting as well as a powerful example of what can be created in the synergy between art and technology. A combination of algorithms and artistic CGI filmmaking, Yugen as a work, exists in a state of perpetual self-generation due to its proprietary “generative coding technology SLOimage” a cutting edge approach to art, content creation and storytelling.
A Japanese term for the awareness of the universe, yugen, as a concept, exists in great harmony with Ms. Jamieson’s own multidisciplinary approach to creativity. A match in terms of passion for technology and complimentary ideologies, the visual symbolism used in Ms. Jamieson’s work is a reflection of the power and glory of the inner-self.
